Luke Littler Fires Back at Critics After Winning Players Championship 32 in Wigan

Luke Littler silenced his critics on Wednesday night after producing a sensational performance to win the Players Championship 32 title in Wigan, securing his spot at next month’s Players Championship Finals in Minehead.
The 18-year-old darts prodigy beat Dennie Olde Kalter 8–2 in the final, averaging an impressive 110.73 in the process — one of his best performances of the year.
Littler Responds to Backlash Over World Youth Championship Appearance
Littler’s victory came just days after he faced criticism for entering the World Youth Championship, despite his recent triumph over Luke Humphries at the World Grand Prix on Sunday.
The World Youth event, held at the same Wigan venue, saw Littler knocked out in the semi-finals by three-time WDF Women’s World Champion Beau Greaves.
Responding to his critics, Littler defended his decision to take part, saying:
“It’s the same venue as what we professionals play and obviously the likes of Gian van Veen and Keane Barry — both tour card holders — played too. But I’m the one that gets it in the neck!
“I didn’t win, so a lot of people were happy, but I just thought I’d come and get used to playing first to five, first to six. That’s what I’ve done today and yesterday.”
Another Major Title for Luke Littler in 2025
This latest win marks Littler’s first Players Championship title of the season, adding to a remarkable list of achievements in 2025.
So far this year, the Warrington-born sensation has already lifted the World Championship, UK Open, World Matchplay, and World Grand Prix trophies — a stunning haul for a player still in his teens.
When asked if he now felt unstoppable, Littler replied confidently:
“I definitely do. At the start of the day it’s never the best, but you’ve got to get past the early stages. When it comes down to the last 16 or quarters, that’s when it gets nitty-gritty. I’m very happy with today.”
“You’ve Got to Believe in Yourself”
Littler also spoke about his mindset and determination, adding:
“You’ve got to believe in yourself. I know I have the capabilities to come from behind — that’s what I’ve done yet again. Today I was in the lead most of the time and that’s where I want to be. But if I’m not, I know I can come back and win games.”
The young star also addressed the online criticism he’s received in recent weeks:
“Obviously, I’m on social media and some people were saying I’m not going to make it — well, there you go, I’ve won it today.”
Littler to Take Short Break Ahead of European Championship
Following his victory, Littler confirmed he will take a well-earned break before competing in the European Championship, which begins on Thursday, October 23.
“I’m very exhausted but happy to come away with a win,” he said. “I’ve done the Grand Prix, the World Youth’s today and yesterday, and now I can go and have a break.
“I’ve been playing darts for 10–11 days non-stop, so I’m going to have a well-deserved rest this weekend and I’ll be back for the Europeans.”
