UK Snow Forecast: Maps Show '3cm Per Hour' Blizzard Set to Hit Scotland and Northern England

A major snow event could soon blanket parts of the UK, with up to 3cm of snow per hour expected in some northern regions, according to the latest weather maps and forecasts.
Heavy Snow Forecast for Scotland on November 13
Advanced GFS weather model maps suggest a blizzard could strike Scotland on Wednesday, November 13, bringing intense snowfall to areas including Inverness, Wick, and Aberdeen.
Between midnight and 6am, snow could fall at a rate of 3cm per hour, creating total accumulations of up to 4cm in some areas.
Southern Scotland and northern England, including Newcastle and parts of the Pennines, may also experience light snow or sleet, while Northern Ireland and parts of Wales could see cold rain showers.
Meanwhile, central and southern England — from Manchester and Birmingham down to London — are forecast to remain cold but mostly dry, with only isolated coastal showers possible.
Met Office Forecast: ‘Unsettled’ Start to November
The Met Office long-range forecast warns that early to mid-November will be “unsettled”, dominated by low pressure systems bringing frequent rain and strong winds.
From November 2 to November 11, forecasters expect:
“Changeable and unsettled weather with further showers or longer spells of rain. Western areas likely to be wettest, with occasional gales or severe gales possible.”
Some brief dry spells may occur in eastern parts of the UK, becoming more widespread later in the period. Temperatures are likely to stay slightly above average, reducing the risk of overnight frost and fog.
Mid-November Could Bring Colder Air
Between November 12 and November 26, the Met Office predicts a gradual transition to less unsettled conditions — though colder air could move in from the north, increasing the likelihood of frosty nights and wintry showers.
BBC Weather agrees that confidence is low for late November but notes that temperatures may trend closer to average, with a chance of chillier conditions after mid-month.
Where Will Snow Fall in the UK?
According to WX Charts, the heaviest snowfall maps currently highlight:
- Northern Scotland – especially Inverness, Wick, Aberdeen
- Southern Scotland and northern England – including Newcastle, Pennines
- Northern Ireland and Wales – mostly cold rain showers
Residents are advised to check local forecasts for updates as winter weather warnings could be issued closer to the date.
